Obituary of James Gentry Moore

James Gentry Moore, M.D., 87, of Lakewood, passed at 2:08 pm Tuesday (October 11, 2010) at WCA Hospital after a brief illness. At his bedside were his devoted, loving wife and family (present and in spirit) and friends. He was born on July 3, 1923 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Ralph James, D.O. and Hetty Lee Galbreath Moore. Dr. Moore graduated from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the Navy until 1948 and in the Army as a captain until 1953, where he was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Before retiring as a board certified internist, Dr. Moore and his wife, Iris, loved helping others through their medical practice for many years in Jamestown. Dr. Moore was an avid sportsman and a passionate golfer in his earlier years and enjoyed traveling. In addition to spending quality time with family members and grandchildren, he and his wife created at their home an outdoor bird sanctuary for many wild birds, which they both enjoyed for many years. Surviving are his wife, Iris Jecker Moore, whom he married on October 30, 1969; two daughters and two sons; Kathleen L. Moore of Jamestown and Suzanne E. Moore of Winston-Salem, NC; Jack A. Moore (Dr. Leann Swanson) of Lawrence, PA and Thomas A. Moore (Meg Moore) of Orchard Park, NY; a grandson, Andy of Lawrence, PA. a grandson, Greyson, and granddaughter, Jordan, of Orchard park, NY. Also, at his bedside were his sister-in-law, Beatrice Jecker Bentz of Boston, MA, nephew, Martin Bentz and grandniece Wedad El-Bazi Bentz. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the truly caring professionals on 3B at WCA and Willcare, to their dear friends Janet Gould, Kathy Johnston, and Claudia Shaw, and to all of the other well-wishers who knew Dr. Moore. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, Heritage Park Chaplain, will officiate. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Lakewood Fire Department, 37 JW Packard Blvd., Lakewood, NY 14750.
