Obituary of Richard H. Sward
Richard H. Sward, 90, of Whiteford, MD died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Hart Heritage Estates in Street, MD.
He was born July 5, 1920 in Hlsingland, Sweden, the son of the late Richard L. and Margaret Karlson Sward.
Mr. Sward served in the 364th Air Service Group of the United Sates Army in the Western Pacific during World War II. He received his Bachelors Degree from Fredonia State Teachers College and Masters Degree from New York University. As an educator and athletic coach, he began his teaching career in Bemus Point and Jamestown. Following his retirement from the East Meadow Public Schools in Long Island, NY, Mr. and Mrs. Sward returned to Jamestown.
Surviving is a son, Richard K. (Andrea) Sward of Quinton, VA; two daughters: Ronni S. (Ed) Casey of Whiteford, MD and Michelle (David) Angel-Wilde of Lucas, TX; six grandchildren: Deborah Sward of Greenbelt, MD, Rebecca Sward of Richmond, VA, Zachary Casey of Whiteford, MD, Shannon Deys of Macedon, NY, Shane Casey of Rochester, NY and Joshua Wilde of Lucas, TX; four great-grandchildren: Jacob and Meghan Deys of Macedon , NY Carter Lanham of Ashland, NH and Makayla Casey of Rochester, NY; and a sister, Nancy S. (John Y.) Carlson of Jamestown, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gene Bergquist Sward whom he married July 1, 1950 and who died June 2, 2004.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeffrey A. Hedin will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
