It is with a heavy heart that I write this note. I just learned about Doris' passing. She was a great lady and one who will always have a special place in my heart and memory. May God Bless her family and may they know we are all praying for them from here in Virginia Beach.

I worked with Doris at the Post-Journal for many years. Doris was so kind, generous and loving. She talked about her family often. I remember her working on this big old brown adding machine, her fingers flying over the keys. I ran into Doris a few years back at Sam's Club. I am so happy I asked her if she remembered me and we gave each other a big hug. I will always remember Doris.
God Bless.

More than half a century ago, our branch of the Mullen family went from New Jersey to Jamestown every summer to visit our grandparents. For me the highlight of the visit would be a large family picnic at Aunt Doris's house. She always provided a warm welcome and wonderful food: the memory of her lemon meringue pie has lasted all these years. In all the subsequent times I met her, she was a kind and charming person always seeing the good in people. I send my sympathy to my cousins Patricia and Peter and their familes who have been blessed in having Doris with them for so many years.

Dear Pete, Trish, and families:
I hardly have a family memory that does not include your Mom. I am specially glad I was able to sit and talk with her following my Mom's memorial service this past summer. We regret we just learned today of her passing and are unable to travel from Oregon to share in tomorrow's celebration of her life. I take some comfort in the knowledge that she joins Inga, Mo, and Bud in a better place.

May the Lord continue to bless Aunt Doris. She was a kind and loving person. Who smiled at everyone. She made the world a better place for all of us. To the Mullen Family in Jamestown and elsewhere - you are in my prayers.

I first met Doris in the mid 1960's when my mother, Clarice Larson, worked in the P-J Circulation Dept. with Doris. One knew at once that Doris was an exceptionally kind and caring person. I did not see Doris much after the 1970's after I moved away from New York. However, Doris kept up a life-long friendship with my mother until her death in 2005 and my mother-in-law, Gwen Gane, was part of the swimming club at JCC. Through the years, the activities and events they shared with Doris and friends were appreciated and fondly recalled. I will always remember Doris as a truly good person.

Doris was an inspiration to me. She had been a close friend of my dad's growing up and remained close with my mom (Budgie Hanson) throughout their lives. My mom was part of that swim club-Monday afternoon lunch group. I was honored to attend many luncheons during my return trips to Jamestown and Doris was the person I most wanted to see. She was funny, sometimes irreverent and full of life. I shall miss her very much.

Doris was my first "boss" at the Post-Journal (1976). It was my first full time job, and she took me under her wing, both through the good and the bad times. I will always remember our talks, and her guidenance, that still leads me in my professional life today. May God be with you and now guide you my dearest friend....
