Obituary of Richard C. Peterson

Richard C. Peterson, 89, of 81 Metcalf Avenue, Celoron, died Wednesday November 17, 2010, in Pittsburgh, Pa. A native of Jamestown, he was born September 24, 1921, a son of the late Charles and Anna Smith Peterson. He was a graduate of the former Celoron High School and served in the US Army 34th Infantry from 1942-46. Starting in 1946 he was employed by Art Metal Construction Company in the Post Index Division and through occupational promotions completed his affiliation with the company as company customer and dealer service representative for the entire eastern sea board of the United States. In 1969 he accepted a position with Ulrich Plan Filing Equipment Corporation as plant manager serving in this capacity for 24 years before retiring in 1993 at the age of 72. Following retirement he enjoyed lawn work, traveling with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #145 F & AM, Scottish Rite Consistory, Kharram Grotto, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Lakewood Memorial Post #1286 American Legion and the Falconer Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his son Bruce "Pete" (Carol) Peterson of Lakewood; a granddaughter Kristine (Chad) Wakeley of Jamestown and two great grandchildren Madelyn and Ryan Wakeley. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Elizabeth "Betty" Carnahan, whom he married July 2, 1943 and who died December 22, 2000, a brother Arthur Peterson, four half brothers Raymond, Donald, Ernest and Harold Frank and a half sister Isabelle Frank. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Timothy Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Monday. A Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be led at 2:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
