Obituary of Claribel L. Magnuson

Claribel L. Magnuson, 90, of 3017 Garfield Rd. Jamestown, formerly of Celoron, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday (November 23, 2010) in her home. A lifelong area resident she was born July 10, 1920 in Kiantone, NY a daughter of the late John Garrett and Nellie Carley Abers. In earlier years she had worked for Jamestown Radiologist and also for the T. James Clarke Box Factory and for the Weber-Knapp Company. She was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and was active with the Lakewood Golden Agers. She was also a 50 year breast cancer survivor. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved to go out and about with her daughter and friends. She loved being around people and truly enjoyed her 90th birthday party this past July on the WJTN Breakfast Club. Surviving are two daughters Janice (Donald) Merchant of Ashville, Yvonne (Frank) Garback of Eustis, Fl, five grandchildren Rex Magnuson with whom she made her home, Craig Merchant of Lakewood, Wendy Sue Merchant of Jamestown, Benjamin Garback, Todd Garback both of FL, seven great grandchildren and two sisters Violet Engstrom of Ross Mills, Julia Hudson of Dallas, TX. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert A. Magnuson whom she married October 8, 1938 and w ho died May 29, 1981, three brothers Albert, Robert, Jack Abers and five sisters Irene Waite, Virginia Johnson, Stella Johnson, Dorothy Bentley and Florence Hebner. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Lee Carlson, of the United Methodist Church of Webster, NY will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Busti Fire Department or to Susan G.
