Obituary of Gwendolyn Belle Black
Gwendolyn Belle Black, 95, formerly of Loyalton of Lakewood and Kelso, WA, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center.
She was the widow of the late Robert A. Black, whom she married September 13, 1941 and who died March 12, 1996.
A Jamestown area resident since 2002, Gwendolyn was born December 31, 1914 in Durand, WI, the daughter of the late Cyrus B. Ogden and Ruby Coburn Ogden Stauty. She graduated in 1935 from Denfield High School in Duluth, MN.
She moved to Kelso in 1967 where she worked for many years for Triangle Dry Cleaners in Longview, WA. Following retirement, she was a 20 year volunteer for the Senior Citizen Craft Store in Kelso and also volunteered at the Kelso SPCA.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kelso.
With her husband, she enjoyed camping and taking friends and family to visit Mt. St. Helens. While in Kelso, their back yard was recognized by the state of Washington as a bird sanctuary.
Surviving are two nieces, Sheryl F. Thayer of Ashville and Karen R. (Terry) Tane of Jamestown, five grand nieces & nephews and twelve great-grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George A. Ogden.
At Gwendolyn's request, there will be no funeral service or visitation.
