Obituary of Stanley C. Sherman

Stanley C. Sherman, 84, of 13 Shaw Avenue, died Tuesday November 30, 2010, in WCA Hospital. A native of North Collins, NY, he was born June 13, 1926, a son of James and Eva Adams Sherman. He was a 1945 graduate of Lakewood High School He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1945 to 1947. While serving in Germany he was granted a two day pass to attend the Nuremburg Trials. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed for 42 years by Blackstone Corporation as foreman of the pressroom. He was a communicant of Holy Apostle's Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its St Vincent DePaul Society. He was a member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. For 16 years he volunteered at WCA Hospital as a transport aide for the physical therapy department. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for 10 years. He enjoyed woodworking and making toys for children which he gave to his family and to local hospitals. Surviving are his wife the former Catherine Weldon, whom he married November 25, 1950, four children Patricia (Lowell) Hedlund of Columbus, OH, Mark (Cynthia) Sherman of Oak Hill, VA, Lori (Michael) Anderson of Erie, PA and Theresa (Scott) Winkler of Loveland, OH; nine grandchildren Sarah (Brad) VanderWielen, Kathryn (Jeremy) Holcomb, Courtney Sherman, Caitlyn Sherman, Ryanne Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Elizabeth Winkler and Robert Winkler and a brother Luther (Jean) Sherman of Ashville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the church.
