Obituary of Theodore F. Schmonsky

Theodore F. Schmonsky, 83, of 312 Oak Street in Lakewood, died at 12:56 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in WCA Hospital. An area resident most of his life, he was born December 31, 1926 in Sheffield, PA, a son of the late James L. and Clara Knopf Schmonsky Sr. Ted had been employed locally for 37 years by Alltel, retiring in 1987. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and especially his time at Chapman Dam in Clarendon, PA. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Gloria Swanson Schmonsky whom he married October 22, 1949; a son, Stephen R. (Janet) Schmonsky of Fredonia and daughter, Joan M. (Marshall) Wells of Stow; two grandsons, John and Christopher Ferri, both of Jamestown; a brother, James L. Schmonsky Jr. of Lakewood; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a brother, Donald C. Schmonsky Sr. A private family service will be held. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
