Obituary of N. David Goldstein
N. David Goldstein, 86, of 151 Myrtle Street, earlier years Westman Rd. Bemus Point, NY, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Thursday (December 2, 2010) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility following a brave and courageous battle with Alzheimers disease.
An area resident for most of his life he was born May 20, 1924 in Toronto Ontario, Canada of American parents, the son of the late Hiram and Fanny Taylor Goldstein.
He was 1942 graduate of Lafayette High School in Buffalo, NY.
Mr. Goldstein was a pioneer in the local Drive-In Theater Industry, building, owning and operating Pic 17 Drive-In Theater during the 1950's. He was also well known locally in the restaurant business where he owned and operated the original Colonial Whip Restaurant and later Tastee Corners Restaurant in Jamestown. He also owned and operated David's Famous Restaurant in Lakeworth, FL during the 1970's. In his later years he worked for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business. He retired from NFIB at the age of 62. He then worked as an independent sales representative for National Write Your Congressman in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Goldstein remained on the job until the age of 83.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He was a former member of the Moon Brook Country Club where he won the Member Guest Tournament in 1971 with his partner Mr. John Lincoln.
He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with family and friends and had a great passion for the game of golf.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Geraldine "Jeri" Johnson whom he married April 22, 1957, three sons Jeffrey Goldstein, Scott Goldstein both of Jamestown, Todd (Tracey) Goldstein of Bemus Point, NY, a daughter Julie (Todd) Weiland of Warren, PA, four grandchildren, Emily and Alex Weiland of Warren, PA, Abby and Zachery Goldstein of Bemus Point. NY, two sisters Helene (George) Strauss of Berkeley, CA, Adele Halbreicht of Buffalo, NY and Austin,Texas, several nieces, a nephew and three great nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rabbi Allen Podet of the Temple Hesed Abraham will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
