Obituary of James H. O'Brien
James H. O'Brien, 91, of 6 Snell Place, Jamestown, NY peacefully died on Sunday December 12, 2010 in his home surrounded by his children.
He was born on January 28, 1919 the son of Joseph and Hazel Atwood O'Brien.
James was a 1936 graduate of Jamestown High School. He began working at Marlin Rockwell, Curtis Wright in Buffalo, NY and eventually he enjoyed a 35 year tool and die maker profession at Blackstone Corporation from 1951 to 1986.
James was confirmed at St. Lukes Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir and rang the steeple bells.
He married Lillian Oberg on August 16, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
During World War II, he enlisted into the Navy as Seaman 1st Class on Cape Esperance with stops at San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Guam, Marshall Island, Kwajele Island and Sipon.
He enjoyed flower gardening, travels to Sweden, Hawaii, Florida, and California and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Nelson (Norm) of Jamestown; Judy Lundmark (Jeff) of Frewsburg; and a son, Gary H. O'Brien of Jamestown; Grandchildren are 1st Sgt. Daniel Gustafson (Amy) of Hope Mills, NC; Cliff Myers of Jamestown, NY; Lori Studley (Larry) of Ashville, NY; Jason Lundmark of Erie, PA; and Jenna Lundmark of Frewsburg, NY; great grandchildren are, Paige Gustafson and Ryan Gustafson of Hope Mills, NC; Morgan Taylor of Davie, FL; Kate Myers of Jamestown; Logan Studley, Lily Studley, and Luke Studley of Ashville, NY.
James was preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Lisa Myers of Jamestown; and a sister, Kathryn Kulow.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday December 15, 2010 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Deacon Cathy Smith, Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the funeral home.
