Obituary of Bernice Rosalinda Sperry
Bernice Rosalinda Sperry, 84, of 49 High Acres Drive, Bemus Point, NY, passed away unexpectedly at 10:44 a.m. Sunday (January 2, 2011) in the emergency room of W.C.A. Hospital.
An area resident since 1951, she was born April 27, 1926 in St. Clair County, AL a daughter of the late Cleveland and Sudie Wolf Canada.
Before her retirement in 1989 she was employed by the Weber-Knapp Company for 23 years. In earlier years she had worked for the former Loblaws Store from 1956 to 1965.
She attended the Fluvanna Community Church and will be remembered as one who loved to spend time quilting, doing crafts and playing bingo. Her family will remember her as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family.
Surviving are her husband of 36 years Philip J. Sperry whom she married December 14, 1974, two sons Larry (Karen) Ford, Rick (Debbie) Ford both of Jamestown, a daughter Bonnie (Brian) Whalen of Bemus Point, three step children James Sperry of North East, PA, Jeanne Sperry of Ellington, Amy Sperry of Dewittville, 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and two sisters Odell Fain of Talladega, Al, Bertie Lee Jacobs of Attalla, AL.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Emma Gifford, Katie Mae Mathis, Rosalee Canada, two brothers, James and Henry Canada and a grandson Allen Sheldon, Jr.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Fluvanna Community Church. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
