Obituary of Fayetta L. Samples

Fayetta Louise Samples, 70, of 842 N. Main St. Jamestown, went into the arms of the Lord January 8, 2011 at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy and courageous fight with cancer. She was born November 21, 1940 in Tidioute, PA the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Walters Byers. Fayetta was the 13th child of a family of 15 siblings, Evelyn Biddel, Mentor, OH; Shirley Davis, North East, PA; William L. Byers, Dennison, TX; Carl W. Byers, North East, PA; Kenneth C. Byers, Waynesville, MO; Patricia McCandless, Greenville, PA, and her loving youngest sister Beverly Redick, Tidioute, PA. Besides her parents, preceded in death are Elsie Byers, Mary Ruth Byers, Chuck Byers, Jean Skellie, Edith Joseph, Belva Bair, and Lena Wazneak. Fayetta was a loving and caring mother. She was married to Arthur W. Samples with whom they had six children. Todd A. Samples (Lisa) of Coldsprings; Scott W. Samples of Panama; Nola L. Pike (Shawn) of Jamestown; Darla C. Crawford (David) of Columbus, IN; Dora I. Bennett (Craig) of Barberton, OH; and Steven E. Samples of Jamestown. Mr. and Mrs. Samples were the adopted parents of granddaughters Wendy L. Fardink (Jason) of Sherman; and Abbey L. Eckwahl (Thomas) of West Ellicott. Loving grandmother of Michael J. Watson of Jamestown; Christina C. Crawford of Muncie, IN; David L. Crawford of Columbus, IN; Devon Thrope of PA; Keifer Samples of AL; Kenneth Samples of Elmira, NY; Eric Samples (Casey) of Jamestown; Brandy Johnson and Craig Bennett of OH; and Loegan Morrison-Samples of West Ellicott. Great grandmother to Sena, Allie, and Jackson Fardink of Sherman; Carter and Audrey Eckwahl of West Ellicott; Alexis Samples of Jamestown; Cory and Zaria Bennett, Jasmine, Tiana, Rayane, Zavier, all of OH. She was Aunt Faye to too many nieces and nephews to list. Mrs. Samples was PTA President for many years at Samuel G. Love School, while her children attended, crossing guard for years there along with dedicating many years as Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, Brownie Mother to many young girls and boys, along with being Block Parent to all our neighborhood. A former employee of Yorktown Industries where she sought safe working conditions for all, and most recently an employee in the deli of the Falconer Quality Markets. Fayetta was a caring and giving person whether it was family or old and new friends. She loved sharing her passion for gardening and her talent for growing beautiful house plants. In her life she baked thousands of holiday cookies for our troops and many bake sales. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Major Richard Best of the Salvation Army will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
