Obituary of Sonya R. Swanson

Sonya Ruth Swanson, Woodridge Nursing and Rehab Home, Houston, TX died Wednesday, January 12th, 2011after a long illness. She was born November 18th, 1936 in Jamestown, NY, the third child of Clarence H. and Ruth Lang Swanson. Sonya was a 1954 graduate of Jamestown High School and graduated from Lutheran Bible Institute in Teaneck, NJ in 1956. She worked in the insurance business in Jamestown for a number of years, primarily with Robert B. Carlson Insurance Agency. She moved to Houston, TX in 1977. Sonya was a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, and St. Phillip's Lutheran Church in Houston until her illness several years ago. Sonya was a loving sister and aunt. She is survived by sisters Patricia A. (Everett) Nelson of Ellery, Susan J. Brewer of Jamestown and Cynthia C. (Dale) Carlson of Oneonta, NY; nine nephews William (Linda) Nelson, Robert Nelson, Daniel (Sheryl) Nelson, Douglas Nelson, Matthew (Deborah) Swanson, Alexander Brewer, Nathan Brewer, Daniel (Susan) Carlson, and James (Katrina) Carlson and three nieces: Nancy (Thomas) Corey, Betsy (Jack) Weisener and Kirsten (Joseph) Tarnowski; many grandnieces, grandnephews and several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Ronald Swanson and niece, Lori (Robert) Nelson. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday January 18, 2011 at Lakeview Cemetery and a Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown. Rev. Alison L. Leitzel, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Friends may visit for one half hour prior to the Church service or following it in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
