Obituary of Alton L. Porter

Alton L. Porter, 94, of 980 Southwestern Drive, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday (January 19, 2011) in his home. He was born July 2, 1916 in Busti the son of the late Frank and Effie Wilson Porter. In 1939, he and his brother worked as seaman. Alton was inducted into the US Army in 1942 serving during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1944. He worked in several factories in Jamestown before retiring from Jamestown Metal Manufacturing in 1982. Surviving are a daughter, June M. Langworthy of Ashville; a son, Jerry Potter of Enterprise, PA; his grandchildren, Bill (Marsha) Langworthy; Sue Langworthy; Ellalee Potter; Edwin Potter; his great grandchildren, Michael Langworthy; Bill Langworthy; Michelle Langworthy; Mary Campbell; and his sister, Wilma Johnson of Youngsville, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Moon Porter who died April 20, 1991; three brothers, Herman, Elde, and Ernest Porter; and three sisters, Etta Cunningham; Iva Kettle; and Lillian Porter. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Busti Cemetery.
