Obituary of Erma J. Hamilton

Erma Jean Hamilton, 86, of 42 Wicks Ave. W.E. passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (February 3, 2011) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident she was born January 29, 1925 in Laona, NY a daughter of the late William and Martha Wanamaker Reed. Erma was a 1941 graduate of the former Ellington High School. Before her retirement in 1985, she was employed by the former Automatic Voting Machine Corporation for 38 years. She was an active member of the Celoron United Methodist Church where she had served as financial secretary, a member of the board and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women's Group, the Celoron-West Ellicott Senior Citizens and was a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She spent many hours volunteering at Tanglewood Manor and W.C.A. Hospital. She and her late husband Hugh loved to travel and enjoyed many bus trips together. Surviving are her step-son Hugh Robert (Sharon) Hamilton of Jamestown, three grandchildren Jill (Nick) Spitzer, Judd Hamilton both of Jamestown, Jason Clayton of Bradenton, FL, five great grandchildren Annika, Mattea and Aubrey Spitzer all of Jamestown, Kaia Hamilton, Jayson Clayton both of Bradenton, FL, a sister Lucille Reed of Jamestown and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Hugh B. Hamilton, Jr. whom she married February 27, 1965 and who died April 9, 1991 and a brother Stanley Reed who died in 1972. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gilbert J. Pearson, pastor of the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
