Obituary of Norman N. Cady
Norman N. Cady, 91, of Front Street in Jamestown died Friday, February 4, 2011 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing surrounded by his family
He was the husband of Ann Marie Ciancio Cady whom he married September 26, 1939 in St. James Catholic Church.
Norman was born October 25, 1919 in Putnum, Conn., a son of the late Alfred and Daisy Duryea Cady. He came to Jamestown at the age of five and attended Jamestown schools.
He founded the Driftwood Restaurant in1946 and in 1948 operated the Driftwood Deli Creamery. Norm then worked 30 years for the Maddox Table Co. as a furniture inspector, retiring in 1982.
He had been a member of the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, the Eagles Club and formerly served as president of the Maddox Credit Union. He attended St. Peter & Paul Church.
Norm was a very devout husband and father. He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by his constant companion, Peaches. He was always understanding and forgiving; a true man of integrity. Even though he battled Alzheimer's, he never complained and was always sweet.
Norm enjoyed hunting and was well-known on Chautauqua Lake for his love and talent for fishing. His family always looked forward to Norm's famous family fish fries. He also enjoyed gardening and had received a 'best garden' award from the City of Jamestown for his vegetable garden.
In addition to his wife, surviving are three children, Daisy Cady Russell, Norman D. (Wanda) Cady and Michael (Linda) Cady, all of Jamestown; eight grandchildren, Adam Cady, Debbie (Dan) Micek, Christy (Dave) Micek, Susan (Troy) Ingersoll, Maggie Cady, Michael (Nicole) Cady, Amanda Lundberg and Hiedi Maloney; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William D. and George Cady, and a son-in-law, Sam Russell.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
