Obituary of Algy L. Carpenter
Algy L. "Skip" Carpenter, Sr, 85, of 325 Baker Street, died Friday February 25, 2011, in Tampa, FL.
He was born November 19, 1925, in Bemus Point, NY, a son of the late Arthur and Maude Hudson Carpenter.
He attended Bemus Point High School where he played on the varsity football and baseball teams.
He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Pasig in the South Pacific from 1944-46.
For 33 years he was employed by Jamestown Metal Products and earlier had worked for Carlson Bakery and Chautauqua Bakery.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a former member of Bemus Point United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed bowling and, following retirement, pursued his passion for golf full time. He was The Bemus Point Golf Course Club Champion in 1959.
Surviving are two children Algy "Skip" (Eileen) Carpenter, Jr. of Tampa, FL, Dina (Rory) Holmberg of Jamestown; four step children Gregory (Patricia) Becker, Susan (John) Penna of Jamestown, Sandra (Andrew) Usher of Hinsdale, IL, Timothy (Laurie) Becker of Falconer; four grandchildren Jamie (Sandy) Reynolds, Jodee (Dennis) Hallett of Jamestown, andCameron and Kelly Carpenter of Tampa, FL; eleven step grandchildren Stephen (Laura) Holmberg of Jamestown, Jennie (David) Feliciano of Hamben, CT, Daniel (Heather) Becker of Jamestown, Kelly (Matt) Skalos of Corry, PA, Lynnsey Penna of Murrieta, CA, Rachel Penna of Chicago, IL, Megan, Eleanor and Katherine Usher all of Hinsdale, IL and Carolyn and Elizabeth Becker both of Falconer; four great grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren and a brother Earl (Shirley) Carpenter of Gila Bend, AZ and his cherished little dog Penny.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Claryce Johnson Carpenter, whom he married May 14, 1949 and who died December 16, 1982, his second wife June Johnson Becker Carpenter, whom he married July 14, 1984 and who died February 4, 2011 and a brother Arthur Carpenter in October of 1995.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday in Hillcrest Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry McCann will officiate.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the church.
