Obituary of Paul W. Harris
Paul W. Harris, Jr, 68, of 188 South Allegheny Avenue, West Ellicott died Saturday February 26, 2011, in WCA Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1942 in Jamestown, a son of Paul and Phyllis Ackroyd Harris, Sr.
He attended Southwestern Central School and was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1959-61 aboard the USS Bristol during the Cuban Missile Crisis followed by multiple deployments in the Mediterranean Sea.
He owned and operated H&H Metal Specialties, Inc.
He was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church where he served as an usher. His other memberships include John W. Tiffany Post #53 Veterans of Foreign Wars having been past commander, Conewango and Maplehurst Country Clubs, Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion, Mt. Moriah Lodge #145 F&AM, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Moose Lodge 2587 Celoron and War Vets Recreation.
He was a true family man who adored his four grandchildren. He had a passion for boating on Chautauqua Lake, scuba diving and golfing. He loved the time he spent with his wife at their lake cottage watching sunsets and enjoying moonlit nights. He had committed his life to the Lord and is now enjoying a pain free eternal life in heaven.
Surviving besides his mother Phyllis Harris of Lakewood are his wife the former Susan E. Stewart, whom he married October 3, 1964; two children Stacey (Arthur) Weinstein of Charlotte, NC and Thomas (Kirstin) Harris of West Ellicott; four grandchildren Ashley and Tyler Weinstein of Charlotte, NC and Judson and Oscar Harris of West Ellicott; two brothers Barry (Anne) Harris of San Jose, CA and Bruce (Sue) Harris of Ashville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1996.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Rev. Eric M. Williams and Rev. Susan Anslow Williams will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friend will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral home.
