And we talk about books, and food, and beer because what else is there? And you would ask the right questions and provide fair answers. And I would welcome you back to San Francisco, surprised that you don't already live here because you just have that way about you that is present, calm, comfortable. And suddenly you are gone, without explanation or understanding, other than the knowledge that we are all meant for the same. But it doesn't make it easier, and it doesn't make it right, and we will all miss you as we ask the questions and search for fair answers.

I don't even know where to start- I really can't even find the words. Josh (and Jason) were among the first people I met in Buffalo. And Josh has always just been that good, solid, decent guy that you can count on- even though I live hundreds of miles away now. Quick with a laugh, a kind word, and a spirited argument- he is gone much, much too soon. I still can't even believe it's true. My heart goes out to Jason, and the rest of his family.

Josh and Jason were an important part of a team of high school boys who traveled to "Miller Mountain" to help with the yearly painting, raking of leaves, and putting down bark around our shrubs. What wonderful, good times they were! I'm sure Jason remembers the attack of the hummingbirds while painting the garage. These memories are irreplaceable. We pray for Josh, Jason, Mark, and Florence. May God keep you in His loving care.

Josh was out here in Denver last week. He was happy and looking forward to the plans he was making for himself and his brother, and excited about the many possibilities life offers, anticipating positive changes for them both. He was talking about his friends everywhere and the family of friends he has in NewYork and SanFran. And his many adventures traveling everywhere.
My boyfriend has commented that it made him feel like-- meeting and hanging out with Josh-- that Jamestown had done right by Josh and that this is probably what people from that area of the country are like-- solid and nice and cool and normal.
I'm so lucky we got to spend one more hour together. But right now everything seems very cruel. There's a new song on the radio, the first I heard once I heard, and they sing "the dark days are over" all happy like they mean it and I think for you that must be real now. I have a strong feeling your mission has become much more important in ways we hope to understand someday and I knew when I saw you just a minute ago that you are ready and prepared for anything, not knowing anything could ever be this.

Josh... you made every day begin with a smile no matter what mood others were in. Always 'there' whenever needed, at a moment's notice. Your dedication to Jason, your work and your friends was clearly seen by all who really knew you. You often refered to me as your second 'dad' and that put me in a place of honor. However it is you my 'son' that today I honor. Rest well in God's right hand.
