Obituary of Diane R Holmes
Diane R. Holmes, 76, of 1062 Lake View Ave. Jamestown, NY passed away at 1:20 p.m. Monday (March 14, 2011) in W.C.A. Hospital.
A lifelong area resident she was born July 6, 1934 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Oscar W. and Ethel LeRoy Carlson.
She was a 1952 graduate of Southwestern Central School.
Before her retirement in 1994, she was a secretary in the medical office of the late Dr. James A. Scarpino, MD, where she worked for over 30 years. In earlier years she had worked for the former Jamestown General Hospital and the former Watson Manufacturing Company.
She was a member of the Camp Street United Methodist Church, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Celoron Legion and a member of the Koinonia Community of Chautauqua County.
She was also a member of the Lakewood Busti Golden Agers and the TOPS #721.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who was always there to support her family.
Surviving are two sons Michael J. Holmes of Jamestown, Jeffrey R. (Janice) Holmes of Lewisburg, PA, Susan H. (Frederick) Bell of Forestville, three grandchildren Rebecca (Phil) Livi, Lisa Holmes both of Lockport, NY, Corey Bell of Forestville, three great grandchildren Hannah and Emma Cross, Oliver Livi, a brother Jack Carlson of IL, two step-brothers Robert Ellis of Busti, Gerald Ellis of Fl as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John F. "Jack" Holmes whom she married November 7, 1953 and who died January 6, 2009, a sister Eleanor Wood and by her maternal grandparents George and Eva LeRoy who raised her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Camp St. United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kevin Costner, pastor and the Rev. Aaron Bjork, pastor of the New Beginnings Fellowship United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where the Koinonia Community will sing at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
