Obituary of Doris E. Melquist
Doris E. Melquist, 90, of 58 Woodworth Ave. formerly of 15 Holbrook St. Jamestown, NY passed away at 3:55 a.m. Monday (March 14, 2011) in the emergency room of W.C.A. Hospital.
A lifelong area resident she was born March 29, 1920 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Carl H. "Calle" and Ellen W. Svard Hendrickson.
In earlier years she was a seamstress for the former Fashion Clothes in downtown Jamestown and in later years had worked at the Marvin House.
She grew up and was confirmed at the Salvation Army and in recent years had attended the First Covenant Church.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was well known for her wonderful cooking, baking and sweet desserts. She loved spending time sewing and mending and was a member of the North Main Sewing Group. She also loved listening to music especially the Gaither Concerts.
Surviving are a son Ronald M. (Waneta) Melquist, a daughter Linda (Ron) Anderson both of Jamestown, five grandchildren Brian (Amy) Melquist, Sandy (Jeff) Reed, Janelle (Jay) Bush, Julie (Rick) Dahlgren all of Jamestown, Doug (Michele) Anderson of Indianapolis, IN, eleven great grandchildren Morgan Melquist, Shelby Melquist, Lilly Melquist, Jeremy Bush, Jeffrey Bush, Jaclyn Bush, Josh Bush, Mallory Dahlgren all of Jamestown, Matthew Anderson, Natalie Anderson and Linnea Anderson all of Indianapolis, IN.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Melvin R. Melquist whom she married November 2, 1940 and who died May 12, 2007 and her brother Raymond C.W. Hendrickson.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Mr. David B. Larson, retired visitation pastor of First Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
