Obituary of William E. Hill
William E. Hill, 86, of 182 Euclid Ave., died at 12:11 a.m. Saturday (April 23, 2011) in WCA Hospital.
An area resident all of his life, he was born March 6, 1925 in Jamestown, the son of the late Albert and Rachel Floyd Hill.
Following graduation from Jamestown High School, he served in the US Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart.
In earlier years Bill had been employed by the former Peerless Photo. He then worked as a postal carrier in Jamestown for 37 years.
He was a member of the Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion and John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW.
Surviving are three children: Marsha Ann (Paul) Donner, Brian R. (Peggy) Hill and Alan B. Hill, all of Jamestown; seven grandchildren: Tammy (Tom) Woodruff, Tiffany (Jamie) Barton, Tasha (Patrick) Ecklund, Steven (Adrienne) Donner, Michelle (John) Robinson, and Kristen and Kyla Hill; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Marge Doud of Ashville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Nordine Hill whom he married October 12, 1952 and who died October 16, 2001; a brother-in-law, James Doud; and a nephew, Steven Doud.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday.
