Obituary of W. Allen Himes
W. Allen Himes, 68, of 23 Englewood Ave., died at 4:55 a.m. Friday (April 22, 2011) following a 17 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
A Jamestown area resident since 1965, he was born December 14, 1942 in Brookville, PA, a son of the late Ray and Ednah Bartlett Himes. He graduated from Brookville High School in 1960 and attended Clarion University.
Allen was employed by the Marlin Rockwell Co. for 13 years and from 1979 until his retirement in 2009 by Cummins Engine in Lakewood.
He was a member of Zion Covenant Church and more recently attended Kiantone Congregational Church. Other memberships include the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Penn York Campers Association and Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
Allen had been active in square dancing for over 30 years. He also enjoyed reading, computers and especially camping and traveling with family and friends, having traveled to 48 of the 50 United States. Always fond of cruises, Allen was given a cruise to the Bahamas by his Cummins co-workers following his Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 1994.
He will always be remembered as the loving, caring and compassionate husband, father and grandfather that he was.
Surviving is his wife, Linnea Hurd Himes whom he married February 6, 1965; two sons, Todd (Linda) Himes of Rockwell, NC and Jason (Deidra) Himes of Warren, PA; seven grandchildren: Izabela Himes of Rockwell, and Mac Himes, Devan and Lauren Christy, and Kylie, Allix and Lincoln Munch, all of Warren; a brother, Ray (Leslie) Himes of Hubbard, OH; and a brother-in-law, Haven Reitz of Summerville, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a sister, Barbara Reitz.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Kiantone Congregational Church. The Rev. Mel McGinnis and Pastor James Mitchener will officiate. Burial will be in the Allen Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the service inthe church Tuesday.
