Obituary of Olive L. Sarro

Olive L. Sarro, 81, of 36 Locust St. formerly of 224 Sprague St. Jamestown passed away at 11:45 A.M. Tuesday (April 26, 2011) in the Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident she was born February 25, 1930 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Robert G. and Mildred Long Hays. She was a 1948 graduate of Southwestern Central School and before her retirement she was employed as an inspector for the former Jamestown Veneer and Plywood Company for 31 years. She was a longtime member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Erene Society. She also was a volunteer for the annual Yassou Festival. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time doing crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles, and china painting. Surviving are a son Jeffrey S. (Sandra) Sarro, two grandsons, Jason M. and Justin T. Sarro all of Jamestown and four brothers Skippy Hays of Ellington, NY, James Hays of Gerry, NY, Gary Hays of Frewsburg, NY, Lawrence Hays of FL. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George S. Sarro whom she married September 5, 1948 and who died January 12, 2007, three sisters Batina Peters, Mary Lou Terrill, Agnes Hunt and a brother Roger Hays. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. George S. Zervos, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led by Rev. Zervos at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
