Obituary of Ardath J. Harris
Ardath L. Harris, 93, of 514 Forest Ave. Jamestown, NY passed away at 9:30 p.m. Sunday (May 8, 2011) in W.C.A. Hospital.
An area resident for most of her life she was born July 6, 1917 in Sheffield, PA a daughter of the late Enoch and Emma Erickson Johnson.
She was a graduate of Sheffield Area High School where she played on the girl's basketball team and was also a graduate of the W.C. A. Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1940.
She served her nursing internship at the Bellevue Hospital in New York City and returned to Jamestown where she was employed as a Registered Nurse at W.C.A. Hospital for over 40 years.
She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where she was also active in the Jane Greeley Society. She was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross and Hospice Chautauqua County.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved being part of her grandchildren's lives and activities.
Surviving are two sons, David S. (Anita) Harris of Jamestown, William T. (Ann) Harris of Lakewood, five grandson's Joshua (Adriel) Harris of Alexandria, VA, Andrew J. Harris of Jamestown, Jay D. Harris of Blasdell, NY, William T. Harris, Jr. and Timothy D. Harris both of Lakewood and twin great granddaughters Maeve and Camille Harris of Alexandria, VA.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur J. Harris whom she married December 4, 1948 and who died May 2, 1979 and by her sister Carolyn McGrath.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller, pastor of the Zion Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
