Obituary of Marilyn C. Stickney
Marilyn C. Stickney, 85, formerly of 21 Hilldale Ave and the Frewsburg Rest Home, died at 9:35 PM Sunday (May 22, 2011) at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born April 20, 1926 in Kingston, NY the daughter of Theron and Pearl Clark Culver.
A graduate of Syracuse University where she received her BS degree, she worked for an accounting firm in Syracuse. She had moved to Saranac Lake, NY after being married and then later to Bath, NY. After moving to Jamestown, she worked for several businesses doing accounting work for them, including Twin Trailer. She worked for the Jamestown High School in the library and math department for 24 years. She also obtained her BS and MS in high school math from the University of Bonaventure while working in the school system.
She was a member and treasurer for many years at Brooklyn Heights Methodist Church. She also served on many committees. She also was a 15 year volunteer at WCA Hospital; and prepared income tax returns for the elderly with limited income through a Chautauqua County program. Marilyn was an accomplished sewer, knitter, and quilter, and enjoyed bowling, golf, and duck carving. She tutored many students while working at the school and privately.
She traveled extensively including several European countries. She also enjoyed taking her granddaughters on many trips when they were young.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara L. (Rick) Benish; two granddaughters, Kellie L. Benish, Megan A. Benish, all of Florida; a brother, Neumont Culver of Texas; and many nieces and nephews, all of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Stickney whom she married August 1, 1952 in the chapel at Syracuse University and who died February 15, 1969; and a sister, Margaret White who died in 2007.
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 12:30 to 2PM Thursday in the funeral home.
