Obituary of Helen D. Johnson

Helen D. Johnson, 86, of Memory Garden, formerly of Ashville and Jamestown, died Sunday May 22, 2011, in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown native, she was born April 7, 1925, the daughter of the late Ernest and Hedvig Fagrelius Ahlstrom. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and Mount Sinai School of Nursing. She was employed by the former Jamestown General Hospital as a registered nurse and later worked for WCA Hospital as a visiting nurse. Following retirement she kept her nursing license for many years. She attended Concordia Lutheran Church and Ashville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed following politics and business investing through reading several periodicals daily. Helen was a gifted musician who could sing and play the violin or piano. She loved nursing, music and especially her family. Surviving are four children Dr. Wallace (Lynda) Johnson of Frewsburg, Cynthia (Phillip) Johnson Sturke of Sterling, VA, Bethany Johnson of Redondo Beach, CA and Dr. Pamela (Robert) Sherman of Ellicott City, MD; eight grandchildren Andrew (Anji) Lacatell of Richmond, VA, Marc (Janna) Lacatell of Boston, MA, Peter Sturke of Richmond, VA, Dr. Britta (Cameron) Mayer of Arlington, VA, Irik Johnson of Miami, FL, Kristof Johnson of Frewsburg, Torrey Johnson of Frewsburg and Michael Johnson of Redondo Beach, CA and four great grandchildren Noah and Sophia Lacatell and Kristian and Halen Lacatell. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton E. Johnson, whom she married June 28, 1947 and who died October 29, 1984. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. John Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
