Obituary of George J. Barnes

George J. Barnes, 89, formerly of 47 Charles Street, died Saturday May 21, 2011, in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing. He was born October 19, 1921, in Sugar Grove, PA, a son of Samuel and Bertha Sites Barnes. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving from 1943-46, achieving the rank of sergeant and receiving two bronze stars. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed by S.M. Flickinger Company for 26 years and earlier owned and operated a service station in Sugar Grove. He was a member of Knights Templar #63 and a 30 year member of Zion Covenant Church and its missionary group. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife. Surviving is his wife the former Mary Olson, whom he married September 25, 1959. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Auditorium. Rev. Samuel Shreffler will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in Busti Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
