Obituary of Charles H. Price

Charles H. Price, 92, of 57 Gordon St., died at 3:25 p.m. Friday (June 17, 2011) in his home. He was born in Jamestown on November 11, 1918, a son of the late Wilson C. and Theodora Penfield Price. A 1936 JHS graduate, he graduated from Williams College in 1940. After beginning his law degree at Cornell University in 1941, he entered the US Army in 1942. He was discharged a Captain in 1946 following duty in the China-Burma-India Theatre. Following World War II, Charles returned to Cornell University, graduating in 1947. He was admitted into practice that same year when he became associated with his father in the law firm Price and Miller in Jamestown. Charles fully retired from the firm then known as Price, Flowers, Malin & Westerberg after over 50 years of practicing law. Always involved civically, his former directorships include the Jamestown Community College Board of Trustees as well as JCC Foundation, First National Bank and later Chase Lincoln First Bank, Lake View Cemetery Association and the YMCA. Charles had served as chairman of the Darrah Fund, on the board of the Hultquist Foundation and belonged to the Jamestown Bar Association, serving as its president. He always considered it a great honor to have served as a pall bearer at the time of Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson's funeral. In 1996, Charles was the first recipient of the John D. Hamilton Award presented by Jamestown Community College for exceptional community service. Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Nancy Nelson Price, whom he married November 17, 1945; two sons, Charles N. (Candy Pratts) Price of New York City and James B. Price of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Vogrin and Courtney (Brian) Bush, both of Medina, Ohio and Carley Price of Cincinnati, Ohio; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Samuel P. (Petey) Price of Chautauqua. He was preceded in death by a son, Wilson C. "Trip" Price III who died December 15, 1999. A private family service will be held. The Rev. Thomas A. Sweet will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
