Obituary of Gloria L. Punk
Gloria L. Punk, 89, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Sumter, SC where she had resided since 2001.
She was the widow of Leo E. Punk whom she married July 10, 1939 and who died July 26, 1971.
Gloria was born December 17, 1921 in Meadville, PA, a daughter of the late Philip and Louise Furno Darpini.
She retired from the former Jamestown General Hospital after more than 25 years of service and was a member of Ss Peter & Paul Church. In South Carolina, she belonged to St. Jude Catholic Church where she enjoyed assisting with numerous craft projects.
Surviving are five children: Philip A. (Beverly) Punk and Madeline F. (David) Pognant, both of Sumter, Kathleen Louise (Scott) Phillips of Wedgefield, SC, Leo E. (Mary) Czyozanowski of Aurora, CO, and William J. Punk of Littleton, CO; three sisters: Mary Takos of Pittsburgh, PA, Amy Detesta of Summerville, SC and Joanne Rossi of Carnegie, PA; two brothers: Benjamin DiMaggio of El Paso, TX and Aurelia DiMaggio of Pittsburgh; fourteen grandchildren and a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29th at Holy Apostles Parish, St. John Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
