Obituary of Roy E. Doolittle

Roy E. Doolittle, Jr., 92, formerly of Bemus Point, died Tuesday June 28, 2011, in Emeritus of Lakewood. He was born June 23, 1919, in Wolsey, SD, the son of the late Roy and Bertha Edmunds Doolittle, Sr. He was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown high School. A WWII veteran of the US Army, he served from 1941-46 attaining the rank of staff sergeant. Following a 10 year stint as an insurance agent, he worked as an automobile salesman for several dealerships including two which he owned. He was a member of Bemus Point United Methodist Church, Sylvan Lodge #303 F&AM, Jamestown Shrine and Ismalia Temple. Surviving are two children Van (Susan) Doolittle of Vestal, NY and Melody (John) Tronolone of East Amherst, NY; five grandchildren William Roy Doolittle of Marietta, GA, Carolyn Slavik of Newark Valley, NY, Richard Shick, Jr. of Williamsville, NY, Charles Shick of Bemus Point, and Elizabeth Shick of Evergreen, CO; eight great grandchildren Ryan and Reece Doolittle of Marietta, Amber and Ashton Slavik of Newark Valley, Micaela, Jake and Ella Shick of Williamsville and Emily Shick of Bemus Point, a sister Mildred Cowan of Lakewood and a sister-in-law Audrey Johnson of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Thelma Southworth, whom he married September 5, 1942 and who died May 1, 2005, a great granddaughter Grace Shick and a sister Ethel Felton. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Janice Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. A Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be led just prior to the start of the service.
