Obituary of Mary Lou Brands

Mary Lou Brands, 81, of 40 Evans Street, Mayville, formerly of Jamestown, died Friday July 1, 2011, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born January 18, 1930, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Clyde Brands and Dorothy Pace Brands Potts. She graduated from Salamanca High School and WCA Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed by as a registered nurse in Greely, CO, Mansfield, OH, WCA hospital and Heritage Green Health Care Center. She retired in 1998. She was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mayville, where she had previously served on the vestry. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church Women, WCA Alumnae Association and RSVP. She was a long time volunteer for the Chautauqua County Humane Society and St. Susan's Soup Kitchen. Surviving are two nieces Patricia (Randy Muth) Matson of Hamilton, NY and Martha (Tim) Mason of Hesperus, CO and great nieces and nephews Eric and Haley Muth and Derek and Jennifer Mason. She was preceded in death by her sister Zaida Brands Matson. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Rev. Gordon De La Vars will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 99 S. Erie Street, Mayville, NY 14757.
