Obituary of Douglas N. Swanson
Douglas N. Swanson, 61, of 109 Panama Bear Lake Rd., Panama, NY passed away at 3:42 a.m. Sunday (July 3, 2011) in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
A lifelong area resident he was born April 10, 1950 in Jamestown, NY a son of Norman Anton and Jacqueline "Jackie" Sard Swanson.
Before his retirement he was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for 17 years. In earlier years he had worked for the former Flickingers and the Art Metal, Inc.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War from August 25, 1969 to August 24, 1971, where he was a decorated sharp shooter.
He was a member of the Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post 8647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Mayville American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was also known for his love of animals, especially his son and daughters black labs Chloe and Pearl.
Surviving are his mother of Ocala, FL, a daughter Kristina A. Coil of Lakewood, two sons Jeffrey D. Swanson of Jamestown, Scott C. Swanson of Panama, three grandchildren Jesse Swanson of Falconer, Gavin Swanson of Jamestown, Tage Coil of Lakewood, a sister Julie A. McClugage of Tarpon Springs, FL, a nephew Sam McClugage of Tarpon Springs and a foster sister Darlene Farley of Frewsburg.
He was preceded in death by his father who died September 20, 1999 and a brother Joel R. Swanson who died January 5, 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook, pastor of the Lakewood Baptist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Panama Union Cemetery.
Family and Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.
