I met Jean in junior high and knew her through college at Fredonia and our years as young teachers. She was a very sweet person. I'm glad her pain is over. I'll keep Joy and Jeffrey in my prayers.

My sympathy to Jean's family at this time. I was a friend and neighbor at Colburns , so I recall many fond memories of fun in the summer with the best neighbors anyone could ever have. May you find peace in the knowledge that Jean is living with her heavenly father .

Jeannie was a great and loyal friend to us and our children. We will never forget her arrival at our door during the blizzard of '77. She had walked 1/2 mile through huge drifts to our country door to see if we were alright. That is how she was-willing to do anything for her friends. We will miss her and remember her often.

I got to know Jean over the years she would visit Fluvanna Library. She was always an inspiration to me as I went through my own ovarian cancer. My thoughts are with Joy and Jeffrey.

We would see Jean at picnics held by mutual friends. She seemed such a positive, energetic woman, who was proud & overjoyed to have adopted her children. She shared about her illness with us, and her attitude was an inspiration. Our thoughts and prayers are with her children & family. Peace, Linda & Paul Demler

Jean was such a blessing to me over the last two years that I was blessed to know her. She could always find something to smile about or find the positive in. What a difference she made in the lives of families and students by her love for teaching. Her love for her two children was apparent in all of her decisions, even to the very end of her time here with them. We will continue to lift all of you up in prayer.

So many wonderful memories of my friendship with Jean through the years. Met her in 7th grade at the old Bemus school and although I eventually moved away from the area, I stayed in touch and was able to visit there often. Jean was a loyal friend, gifted teacher and wonderful mom. My thoughts and prayers are with Jeff and Joy and all those who knew and loved Jean. She will be missed!

Dear Jeanie, You will be missed, we had grown apart over the years. But we had the best years of our lives growing up together. We were neighbors and friends and shared many happy times together. We may not have stayed in contact, but you were never far from my thoughts. Rest Peacefully, you have brought much joy into many peoples lives. I am only one of many who will miss you.
Peace, Doug

Jeannie and I met in 5th grade at Fluvanna Elementary School in 1958. I was the new kid and so happy to find a girl who lived near me on Belleview Road.
When we were in the 7th grade and went to school in Bemus Point, we became friends with Cheryl Thompson, Martha Colburn, Dianne Van Ness, Mary Grace Cross. (We have married names now.) We were great friends through Junior and Senior High School. Slumber parties, Girl Scouts, sports spectators, intramural teams, swimming, and just generally hanging out.
My fondest memory of Jeannie is realizing she was good at volleyball and Jeannie helping me be a better player. I remember many slumber parties at her parent's cottage on the lake and midnight swimming. And, quite vividly, Speeder, the Clausen's dachshund.
Jeannie, you made your mark as a mother, teacher, friend. Bless you!

I was saddened to hear that Jean had passed away. She was a wonderful person, and teacher. She helped my daughter during her middle school years with her reading, and because of Jean's help was awarded a scholarship to Hilbert College. Rest in peace, Jean!!

My first memory of Jean was at a friend's house right after she adopted Joy. Joy was sitting on the floor in her baby carrier looking all bright eyed and alert. Jean was so excited and we were all so happy for her and Joy. Truly a courageous woman. Condolences to the family.

Ms. Clauson helped me at Silver Creek High School. She was my reading comprehension teacher. She truly had the gift for teaching. She was a gentle and caring woman. I am glad that I had the priviledge of being one of her students.
