Randall was in medical school at U of R when I was an undergraduate. I did not know him personally but knew who he was, and encountered him often in passing. Even at that level his kindness, genuineness, fundamental goodness and quiet humility were readily apparent. I was so shocked and saddened to learn today of his passing, and wish to express my deepest condolences to his wife and children, and all his other family members, friends and patients. This is surely a man whose loss is keenly felt.

I offer my sincere sympathies to Dr. Swanson's family. I have memories of working with Dr. Swanson when I worked at WCA in the mid 1980's. He was kind to his patients and to the nursing staff, as well.

My sincere sympathy goes out to Randy's family for their loss. As one of his many Colgate KDR brothers, I had the fortunate experience of sharing great times during our college years and more recently enjoying his friendship and humor at the annual golf outings at Colgate. Simply put - he was a great guy. He will be sorely missed by anyone who knew him.

May God give the family peace and comfort in this time of grief. I remember Randy as a child and later as a young adult, although I have been away from Jamestown many years. His sister Kay and aunt Donna were good friends. He will be missed. Peace be to his memory.

Heartfelt condolences to your entire family. We have never met Dr. Swanson, but know of him through his in laws the Voltmans. We are all on earth but a short time. It is with great sadness that I learned of Randy’s sudden and untimely passing. Having known him most of my life as the quiet, unpretentious, gifted and accomplished individual that he was, it is difficult to accept the depth of this loss to his family, friends and community. He made extensive and creative use of his many talents as a leader in service to others, to his community and for the general benefit of every organization to which he belonged. While it is hard to believe we could ever forget any of his words (a man of so few but all of which mattered and quite often entertained with incomparable wit), or forget any of what he accomplished through his extraordinary talents(professionally among his colleagues and patients, or personally in the quiet of his own time and space), those who came in contact with Randy will never forget how he made them feel. Linda, how can we possibly process this? I, and the rest of the KDRs have been friends, good friends, with Randy for all those 40 years. We were calling him Doc Swanson in 1973! That's why this is so painful. That's why this hurts so much. We've been walking around like zombies for the 36 hours.
We have over the years been such good friends, through our bond of KDR, that we've all become family. As far as I'm concerned, you, Chris and Pete, will always be part of our family.
As Steve McAuliff said in one of the many tributes of KDR emails, "Randy, you've got an open tab at Hicks on the men of KDR, drink up"
May God bless Randy, we will miss him terribly.

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Swansons family. I worked with him in surgery at WCA for many years besides being a patient of his. He was so gifted and such a pleasure to work with I wll always remember him wth fond memories. My husband was also a patient and thought very highly of him. Linda,Christine and Peter,
I was a younger fraternity brother of Randy (KDR 76). I was just reminiscing about Randy at my 35th reunion about a month ago at Colgate to much younger brothers (24?). I left KDR insisting no one took better care of the house than Randy (Ha!). He always struck me as a gentle man, with a quick wit, yet driven. I am saddened to hear of his passing.

He was one of the good guys. He repaired a vary bad injery to my upper arm , and did a great job. Saw him at an auction a few years ago dressed in his barn clothes. Speaks volumes of his charactor. I was so saddened this morning to read that Dr. Swanson passed away so suddenly! I was a patient of Dr. Swanson, and he helped me in so many ways! He did five surgeries on me, and I've done really well! My deepest condolences go out to the family, and to his colleagues!
