Obituary of Georgia E.V. Darroch
Georgia E. V. Thoren Darroch, 91, formerly of 145 Colfax St. and 20 Collins Ave., died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday (July 17, 2011) at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center.
She was the widow of George W. Darroch whom she married December 23, 1941 and who died May 3, 1998.
A lifelong area resident, she was born February 25, 1920 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Arthur R. and Olga Swanson Thoren, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937.
In earlier years, Georgia was employed in the office of both the Marlin Rockwell Corp. and Empire State Mutual Life Insurance. She then worked for many years in the reading office of the Jamestown Public Schools and retired as a secretary from Immanuel Lutheran Church.
As a lifelong member, Georgia was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where her family were charter members. Throughout the years Georgia belonged to the Esther Circle, Sunshine Society and Fellowship Guild of the church.
She also belonged to the Chautauqua Region Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Georgia enjoyed nature, gardening and cooking, as well as many trips and travels with her husband, George.
Surviving are three children: Jacqueline E. Darroch of Seattle, WA, Michael B. (Becky) Darroch of Jamestown and Judith A. (Dennis) Wilson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; three grandchildren: Christopher D. (Brandy) Forrest of Rio Rancho, NM and Daniel Wilson and Kristina Wilson, both of Calgary; four great-grandchildren: Aidan Forrest, Mackenzie Forrest, Kaden French-Wilson and Kylie Kemp-Wilson; a sister, Leonore Swan of Jamestown and brother, Daniel (Sally) Thoren of Salem, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anita Rolph and Beverly Driscoll, and a niece, Cathy Swan Huntington.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 22 in Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt and the Rev. John P. Saraka will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21 in the Lind Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the service Friday, July 22 in Christ Chapel.
