Obituary of William G. Barnes

William G. "Bill" Barnes, 87, of 220 Southwestern Drive Lakewood, formerly of 32 Lakeview Drive Lakewood, and 107 Hotchkiss St. Jamestown, died at 6:12 AM Monday (July 25, 2011) in his home. He was born May 30, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the son of Jack and Jessie Vale Barnes. Bill was a graduate of Danforth Technical High School in 1942, and attended Ryerson Institute of Technology. Prior to retirement in 1994, he had worked at Ring Punch and Die for 17 years, and previously at Blackstone Corporation as a research and design engineer. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Church in Clymer, the Jamestown Senior Center, the Moose Lodge, and the War Vets. He was also an avid bowler in several leagues. Surviving are two sons, Bruce G. Barnes of Clymer; Eric W. (Karen) Barnes of Granada Hills, CA; three daughters, Janet (Robert) Barnes-Farrell of Mansfield Center, CT; Beverley A. Barnes of Coon Rapids, MN; Shirley J. (Mark) Orton of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Jessica (David) Blanchfield, Caitlin Farrell, Billy and Olivia Head, Tom, Amy, and Eric Orton; and his sister in law, Shirley Fry of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Telfer Barnes whom he married July 24, 1948 and who died February 27, 2009; and a brother, Robert W. Barnes. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. His son, Bruce G. Barnes will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
