Obituary of William M. Swanson
William M. Swanson, 85, of Memory Garden, formerly of 22 Ohio Street, died Saturday July 30, 2011, in WCA Hospital.
A native of Jamestown, he was born June 24, 1926, a son of the late W. Herbert and Rose Pond Swanson.
He was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School and later graduated from Jamestown Community College.
He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy serving from 1944-46.
Prior to his retirement he was president of Premium Die and Tool.
He was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church, Ingjald Lodge #65 Independent Order of Vikings, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and the Antique Automobile Association.
He and his wife owned a cottage at Magnolia Grove on Chautauqua Lake for many years and he volunteered with New York Department of Conservation Trout Release.
Surviving are his wife the former Joyce Sheldon, whom he married September 12, 1950, son Dr. Tom (Jennifer) Swanson of Portsmouth, RI, and children Hans and Vaughn Swanson, and their mother Margret Lee Swanson; daughter Sue (Benton) Barker of Moore, SC and children Adam and Whit Barker and son William (Meri) Swanson of Jamestown and children Ben and Mandy Swanson.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Swanson.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. J. Faye Cleveland will officiate.
Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
