Obituary of Wayne R. Grossman

Dr. Wayne R. Grossman, 64, of 4805 Ellery-Centralia Road, Bemus Point, died Sunday July 31, 2011 in Park West Hospital, Knoxville, TN. He was born October 23, 1946, in Buffalo, a son of Alma Neubecker Grossman and the late Robert Grossman. He graduated from Canisius High School and Missouri Valley College, earned a Master's Degree from University of Missouri and received his PhD in Community Development from Cornell University. He served in the US Army from 1969-71. Dr. Grossman was employed by Cornell Cooperative Extension as an extension agent and later as an executive director for over 35 years. He was a communicant of St Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point. His memberships include Bemus Point Library Board of Directors .He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #557, Ellery Center and the Kiwanis Club of Jamestown. He also served as a Commissioner of Allegany State Park. He spent time enjoying his passion of fishing with friends and family. His greatest joy he found in his four wonderful grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Surviving besides his mother of Buffalo are his wife the former Sharon Stoiber, whom he married May 9, 1970, two children Kim (Scott) Eicher of Aurora, CO and Eric (Amy) Grossman of Hamburg, NY; four grandchildren Jaxon Eicher and Madison Eicher, both of Aurora, CO and Sydney Grossman and Colden Grossman both of Hamburg, NY; a brother Paul (Cindy) Grossman of Dayton, OH and two sisters Susan (Randall) Hart of Albany, GA and Jan (Bill) Baker of Winchester, TN. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church. Rev. Todd Remick will officiate. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
