Obituary of Elaine Mae Scarsone

Elaine Mae Scarsone, 74, of 9 Crane St., died Sunday, September 25, 2011 in her home. She was born August 30, 1937 in Bemus Point, a daughter of the late Paul and Josephine Eldridge Guignon. A 1956 graduate of the former Bemus Point High School, Elaine later graduated from Jamestown Community College's nursing school. She worked as a registered nurse at Warren State Hospital for many years, retiring in 1983. Elaine was very active in Crane Street Apartment activities and served as acting secretary of resident affairs in the W.B. Anderson Building. She spent many hours with her cross stitching and crocheting and had won numerous awards for her needlepoint. She also enjoyed Bingo and casino bus trips. Additionally, she volunteered at the Present Center Adult Day Care and had been a Special Olympics roller skating coach. Surviving are three children, Peter J. (Dawn) Scarsone, Jr., Brian D. Scarsone and Paula J. (John) Shafer, and a step-daughter, Roseanne (Victor) DeFrisco, all of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Jeremy Scarsone, Kalene Shafer and Jessica Shafer, and two step-grandchildren, Paul DeFrisco and Kimberly Seager, all of Jamestown; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Scarsone; and two sisters, Carol (Harold) Almquist of Jamestown and Alice Franson of Fairfax, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. Scarsone, Sr. who died June 28, 1990; and a brother, Lawrence Guignon. The funeral will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Thursday.
