Obituary of Howard A. Lundgren
Howard A. "Howie" Lundgren, 85, of 45 Willow Ave. Jamestown passed away at 11:37 p.m. Sunday (October 9, 2011) in W.C.A. Hospital.
A lifelong area resident he was born May 23, 1926 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Elmer G. and Alice Johnson Lundgren.
He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from November 29, 1943 to July 1, 1946.
Before his retirement he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier out of the Jamestown Post Office, where he worked for 39 years.
He was a long time member of the First Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of the Ingjald Lodge #65 Independent Order of the Vikings where he also sang in the Viking Male Chorus for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Thule Lodge #127 VASA Order of America, the War Vets Recreation Club, the Samuel Derby Post #556 American Legion, Frewsburg and was a 60 year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union.
He was also a Hamm Radio Operator for more than 30 years, an avid reader and enjoyed doing photography.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years the former Joanne C. Bloomquist whom he married April 15, 1951, a son Jarrett Lundgren of Madeira Beach, FL, a daughter Dr. Janelle Lundgren, MD of Cincinnati, OH, two grandchildren Jeremy (Lauren) White of Springfield, OH, Joshua Lundgren-Dolan of Cinn. OH, a great granddaughter Jerrah Gabrielle-White of Springfield, OH as well as several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends form 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
