Obituary of Genevieve E. "Gen" Lumia

Genevieve E. "Gen" Lumia, 86, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 in St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge in Erie, PA. She was the widow of Anthony J. "Skip" Lumia whom she married July 19, 1947 in St. John Catholic Church and who died March 25, 2011. Genevieve was born in Jamestown on November 19, 1924, the daughter of Nicholas and Theresa Marucci, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1943. She had been employed for 25 years by Bigelow's Department Store, 19 of those years as a bridal consultant. Gen was a member of Holy Apostles Parish, St. John Church where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society and Bishop Committee, sang in the choir and cared for the church linens. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and looked forward to decorating her house for the holidays. She loved pets, especially her dog Corkey and cat Emma, and the one and only time she went golfing resulted in a hole-in-one at Forest Heights Golf Course. Gen always had a smile on her face and a helping hand for everyone Surviving is her daughter, Karen Ann Lumia of Erie, PA; a niece, Michele Seymour of Greenhurst and two nephews, Brian Rose and Dennis Rose, both of California; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Marucci of Jamestown. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael A. Marucci and sister-in-law, Jennie Rose. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish, St. John Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O.
