Obituary of Gordon E Schermerhorn
Gordon E. "Scrappy" Schermerhorn, 90, of Kingman, AZ formerly of Jamestown, NY passed away on Saturday (November 5, 2011) in The Gardens Care Center, Kingman, AZ.
An Arizona resident for the past 28 years, he was born August 1, 1921 in the Town of Mina, NY a son of the late Loy B. and Edith Martin Schermerhorn.
He was a graduate of the former Lakewood High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II and the Korean War.
Before his retirement in 1983, he was an Industrial Sales Representative for the Gierston Tool Company in Jamestown.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Kingman, AZ.
Surviving are two daughters Sandra L. (Edward) Dowling of Syosset, NY, Nancy E. (Gary) Boynes of Glassboro, NJ, six grandchildren Kelly (Andrew) Hickman of Fallon, NV, Shawn Schermerhorn of San Diego, CA, Robyn Schermerhorn of Las Vegas, NV, Brian M. (Marlys) Dowling of Guttenberg, NJ, Eileen K. (Charles) Ratzer of Alexandria, VA, Bethany J. (Jack) Wigal of Kingman, AZ and six great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years the former Lillian A. Till Schermerhorn who died October 28, 2002, a son Douglas G. Schermerhorn, a grandson Carmine DeFrancisco, two sisters Helen Wellman, Martha Peiffer and two brothers William Schermerhorn, Raymond Schermerhorn.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. David Olson will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment was in the Grace Lutheran Church Columbarium, Kingman, AZ.
