Obituary of Sherwood H. Lawson

Sherwood H. Lawson, 84, of 600 Baker St. Ext. #6, formerly of 28 Kingsbury St., died Saturday November 12, 2011 at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital, Buffalo. He was born October 28, 1927 in Jamestown the son of the late Albert L. and Frances Wilson Lawson. Sherwood was a 1946 graduate of the former Celoron High School and served in the US Army and the Naval Reserves. For 33 years, he was employed as a machine tool maker at the former Proto Tool, and later, retired from Jamestown Metal Products. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and a longtime member of Ingjald Lodge #65 I.O.V. singing in the Viking Male Chorus for over 20 years. He also sang for 10 years with the Jamestown Harmony Express. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Meagher Lawson whom he married September 13, 1958; a daughter, Ellen M. Lawson (Kenneth Goldberg) of Snyder, NY; a son, Paul R. Lawson (Amanda Rozaklis) of Honeoye Falls-Rochester, NY; three grandchildren, Angela Goldberg of Ithaca, NY; Veronica Goldberg, Benjamin Goldberg, both of Snyder; two sisters, Linnea Nichols of Cassadaga, NY; and Tina Tilyou of Bushnell, FL. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty McGonegal; and two brothers, Burton Lawson, and Albert Louis Lawson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
