Obituary of Jon C. Eggleston
Jon C. Eggleston, 78, of 22 Midgley Street, died Wednesday November 16, 2011, in Erie County Medical Center following injuries sustained in an automobile accident which occurred in Jamestown July 2011.
He was born July 27, 1933 in Jamestown, the son of Edward and Bonita Johnson Eggleston.
He enlisted in the US Naval Reserve in 1951, served on active duty from 1954-56 and was honorable discharged from the Naval Reserve September 24, 1959.
He was employed by the Jamestown Police Department from 1956 to 1968 and later owned and operated Jamestown Hearing Aid Center.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Peacock Masonic Lodge #696 F&AM, where he was past master. He was a very active member of Kiwanis Club of Jamestown and served as president and State Lieutenant Governor. He was a former member of the Scottish Rite and Westfield Masonic Lodge.
He enjoyed time spent with his grandsons, fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, making korv and wood working with his scroll saw. He will be remembered for his meticulous lawn. At one time he captained a Muskie Fishing Charter on Chautauqua Lake.
Surviving are his wife the former Roselyn Pederson, a daughter Lisa (Michael) Gustafson of Jamestown, two grandsons Zachary and Dawson Gustafson, both of Jamestown and his "third grandchild", the Gustafson's black cocker spaniel, Shadow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step mother Hazel Eggleston and three infant children Denise, Jonalyn and David Eggleston.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Alison L. Lietzel will officiate.
Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be led at 6:45 p.m.
