Obituary of Robert M. Fox

Robert M. Fox, 91, of 3246 Young St. in Jamestown passed away at 6:37 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown resident since 1952, he was born February 28, 1920 in Delta, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Wilma Maxwell Fox. Mr. Fox was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and had done additional studies at Cornell University, Fredonia State College and Jamestown Community College. Mr. Fox was a retired real estate sales representative and developer. He had previously worked as an industrial sales representative and a pilot. He was a World War II veteran, having attained the rank of Major with the 42nd Bomb Wing of the US Army Air Corps. He served in North Africa, Sardinia, Corsica, Italy and France. After hostilities ceased, he served in Germany requisitioning Nazi scientific equipment. For his service he was awarded the Bronze Star with clusters, the Air Medal, European Theater medal with clusters and the World War II Victory Medal of Operations. He was a life member and past officer of the Theodore Roosevelt Lodge F & AM # 697 of Pittsburgh, PA. He also was a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, a life time member of the Syria Shrine Temple, the AAONMS of Pittsburgh, the Shrine Flying Fezzes, Jamestown Shrine Club, life member of the Den Adelman Club, the Jamestown Shrine Drum & Bugle Corps, American Legion Post #0561, member and trustee of the Chautauqua Chapter of the Empire State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, AARP and past officer of the Civil Air Patrol of Pittsburgh. Bob will be remembered by his family and friends as a man of infinite patience and for his friendship toward all with whom he came into contact. Surviving is his wife, Carol Peterson Fox; three stepsons: Douglas (Leslie) Bloomberg of Lacey Spring, AL, Wayne (Carol) Bloomberg of Tampa, FL and Keith Bloomberg of Steamburg, NY; five step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy M. Fox who died in 1995. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, where a Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Monday.
