Obituary of Ellen E. Nelson

Ellen E. Nelson, 95, formerly of 80 Norton Avenue, died Friday, November 18, 2011, in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A Jamestown native, she was born December 17, 1915, a daughter of Robert and Ida Olivia Nilsson Oberg. She was a 1935 graduate of Jamestown High School. Prior to her retirement in 1972, she was employed by Automatic Voting Machine as an assembler for 26 years. Following retirement she worked for Bigelow's Department Store and area school cafeterias. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, a life member of Thule Lodge and a former member of the Vikings. She loved to cook, sew and garden. She enjoyed traveling to various destinations including Florida, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Switzerland. Surviving are several nieces and nephews including Judy Lundmark of Frewsburg, Joyce Nelson and Gary O'Brien both of Jamestown who were her caregivers. She was preceded in death by her husband Gunnard E. Nelson, whom she married July 3, 1943 and who died February 7, 1975, three sisters Margaret Lindquist, Edith Johnson and Lillian O'Brien and three brothers Rudolph, Arthur and Harold Oberg. The funeral will be held at 5 p.m. today in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
