Obituary of Santa C. Brooks

Santa C. Brooks, 87, formerly of 60 Arden Parkway and Frewsburg Rest Home, died Friday November 18, 2011, in DeMay Living Center, Newark NY. She was born November 1, 1924 in Jamestown, a daughter of Salvatore and Nicolina Mocciaro LaValle. She was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She volunteered at WCA Hospital as a Grey Lady. She enjoyed traveling, was avid golfer and the unofficial family photographer. She loved cook and sew. There are many memories of her at her sewing machine making a dress or other project. Surviving are three children Susan (Gary) Horvath of Seneca Falls, NY, Lawrence (Debbie Shivley) Brooks of Elkhart, IN, and Peter (Sharon) Brooks of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren Karen Horvath of Waterloo, NY and Gregory Horvath of Rome, NY; a brother Joseph LaValle of Paramus, NJ and many nieces and nephews including Jamestown area residents Nikki Gulloti, Nicky LaValle, Marietta Lombardo, Sally Meyers and Mariane Spitale. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis G. Brooks, whom she married June 26, 1954 and who died February 11, 2001, three sisters Rose Paolillo, Margaret LaValle and Katherine LaMarca and four brothers James, Samuel, Angelo and Peter LaValle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to DeMay Living Center, 100 Sunset Drive, Newark, NY 14513.
