Obituary of Jeanne Tiffany Fortune

Jeanne Tiffany Fortune, 97, of 174 McDaniel Ave., died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in her home. She was born November 8, 1914 in Port Chester, NY and was the daughter of the late A. Clarence and Lona Millard Tiffany. A 1932 graduate of Jamestown High School, Jeanne had been employed in earlier years by the former Poirier & McLane Corp. in Falconer and the Art Metal Corp. For four years she worked as receptionist at the former Siegfried's Photography Studio and for 20 years as a buyer for Bigelow's Department Store. In 1961 she moved to Washington DC where she married her husband, Frank C. Fortune on June 8, 1961. Here she served on the Board of the Washington Hospital Center and for the Episcopal Home of Washington. After retirement to North Carolina where she attended St. Phillip's Episcopal Church, the Fortunes returned to Jamestown in 1986. Jeanne was a life member of St. Luke's Episcopal where she taught Sunday school and volunteered in the Thrift Store. She had been a member of the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club, Fenton Historical Society, JHS Alumni's 100 Member Club, Chautauqua Blind Association and the Opti-Mrs. Club. Surviving is her lifetime friend, June Wahlberg of Lakewood and long time friends and caretakers, Donna and Barry Mason of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 15, 1999. A private service will be held. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Special thanks go to Laura, Gladys and the rest of the Willcare Staff.
