Obituary of Carl J. Baggiano
Carl J. Baggiano, 91, of 50 School St, WE, died peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at St. Ann's Home in Rochester after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Adelaide Mazzone Baggiano.
Carl was born April 15, 1920 in Jamestown, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Fapienza Baggiano. He is survived by his daughters, Donna (Pat) Charest of Bemus Point and Carleen (Mike) Gilevski of Pennfield, NY; four grandchildren: Todd (Kim) Charest, Patric Charest, Alissa (Lee) Wilson and Michael Gilevski; two great-grandson, Max and Alex Charest; and two sisters, Angeline and Bessie Baggiano of Jamestown. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Baggiano and two sisters, Sarah Russo and Jay Imre.
Carl was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. He enlisted in the US Army, serving from February 6, 1942 until October 29, 1945 and spending a good portion of his service time in Trinidad as the postman. He retired from the former Watson Manufacturing Co. in Jamestown and continued to work for many more years in manufacturing.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood Memorial Post American Legion and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Carl loved sports and in later life enjoyed spending time in the casino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750; or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
